In days past, having a real horn section with trumpets, saxophones, and trombones perform on your recording meant traveling to Nashville, New York City, or Los Angeles, hiring studio musicians, renting a studio, and hiring an engineer (all usually paid by the hour). Times have definitely changed. Today, a real live brass section can be yours without leaving your living room! From rock to country, or jazz to hip-hop, the LiveHorns.com team has the skills and experience to take your songs to the next level.
Tommy Vaughan, an accomplished trumpeter with numerous awards and recording projects under his belt, formed LiveHorns.com in 2005. LiveHorns.com is a unique website that links musicians and producers around the world and allows virtually anyone to hire real studio musicians. Thanks to the expanded technology in digital recording and high-speed internet access, real, live horn recordings are available which far exceed the sound quality of keyboard horn sounds.
It couldn’t be simpler. Upload your track and in less than a week the perfect horn section is ready for you to download. It is all custom played by real studio musicians with no samples, keyboards, or anything electronic. LiveHorns.com uses the best microphones and pre-amps available and records using Pro-Tools. (Pro-Tools is considered the standard in digital hard-disc recording and is used by most elite recording studios today.)
“Clients upload their song(s) to our server or email them directly to us. They fill out a simple form that gives us information about the type of horn section they want. It could be as simple as a saxophone solo or a full 5-piece horn section. We write the arrangements or play their charts, record the horns, and send back a reference mix for approval. The raw audio files of each instrument (trumpet, saxophone, trombone, etc.) are made available for the client to download and use in their own audio editing software. They receive each instrument as a separate file so it can be mixed by the client,” says Vaughan.
In the short time LiveHorns.com has been in existence, the company has caught the eye of major label executives and producers as a “go to” for custom horn sections for their artists. EMI/Sparrow Records producer Chris Stevens chose Livehorns.com for Mandisa’s Grammy and Dove nominated album “True Beauty”. Mandisa shot to instant fame when millions of TV viewers across the nation were captivated by her winning smile and powerhouse vocals as she sang her way into the final rounds of the fifth season of American Idol. “It was a thrill to be able to provide horns for Mandisa’s new album. She is obviously very talented and we’re happy to be able to add our horn work to an already incredible album,” said Vaughan.
Livehorns.com can also be heard on the Grammy and Dove nominated album “Introducing Ayiesha Woods”, and a track for the Bollywood film “Aaja Nachle.” They appear on the Universal Pictures soundtrack for “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A Veggietale’s Movie”, the Big Daddy Weave album “What Life Would Be Like”, and the upcoming Group 1 Crew release “Ordinary Dreamers.”
Vaughan says, “Even though we have been fortunate to work with major Label artists, we still provide the same exact service for independent producers and musicians all over the planet. You don’t have to have big credentials to work with us. We keep our prices affordable and always give each job 110%.”
“Stellar,” said producer Brown Bannister, referring to working with LiveHorns.com for an upcoming Christmas album featuring Mandisa. Bannister is known for his work with Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Avalon, and Michael W. Smith.
Clinton Cerejo, a music producer in India, recently used Livehorns.com on a song for the upcoming independent film “Crime Partner”. Clinton stated, “Live Horns has done a phenomenal job! They have really injected life into the arrangement. I’m 100% satisfied with their work, their attitude towards their clients, and their superb work ethic.”
Producer Christoper Stevens, known for his work with Toby Mac, Sanctus Real, and Mandisa said, “Working with Livehorns.com was such a breeze, and I appreciated their high level of professionalism throughout the process. It was so easy downloading the finished tracks and bringing them into my existing sessions. I look forward to working with them again this way in the near future.”
